A magical saga of Owls, full of romance and adventure, heroism and treachery, legend and lore; combined with a profound love of the countyside and the creatures that inhabit it.
The ancient communities of Barn Owls and Tawny Owls are locked in a desperade struggle for territory. The object of their warring is a beautiful strech of woodland know as the Lost Domain. Living space in scarce: threatened already by the encroachment of mankind, and by the arrival of strangers, the Little Owls.
But now there another danger on the horizon, one which may be far more perilous than the civil war between the Barn Owls and the Tawnies. A Monster Owl is flying ever closer, killing every living thing in is parh; leaving terror and desolation in his wake. Long-time enemies must band together to stop the invader, if they are to save themselves, and The Lost Domain.
This epic tale is told by Yoller, a young and privileged Tawny who has a great deal to learn about love and life, and who is destined to become a much sadder, wiserbird by the end of the story.
Martin Hocke originally visited the world of the Owls in his enchanting debut novel, The Ancient Solitary Reign. In that book he told the tale from the Barn Owls' point of view: and their version of the Story is quite different from the Tawnies' interpretation!
