Every year around Christmas, the NY Times publishes a list of the 100 most notable books of the year. They've been doing this for quite some time now. Of each year's hundred books, about half are fiction or poetry. The list contains not only that year's prizewinners, but also obscure finds, authors that no-one has ever heard of, foreign books.
