Mi è piaciuto molto, anche se il finale mi ha lasciato un po’ di malinconia, ma ammetto che forse non esisteva modo migliore per concludere un’avventura cosí.

"So?" said Kaz.
"Well, usually it's just half the city."
This is probably one of the most efficient summary of a book I've ever read. Just so that you know, I'm still trying to figure out if I should love Leigh Bardugo or lock her in Hellgate forever.
Why?
Well, maybe because I spent all the last fourth of the book crying, sobbing, insulting everything and everyone and crying again. I mean, it's the part I appreciated the most, and it would have been totally amazing even without one damned particular event I absolutely don't want to recall but geez it was so sadistic of the author! ç____ç
But now let's (try to) focus. If I have to be honest, I had a hard time trying to rate this book. This is why:
- PRO
> psychological depth. It was already present in Six of crows, but here it reached really high, high levels. The use of POV demonstrated refined writing skills that I found just in a small bunch of authors so far.
> the ending. As I said above, it was in absolute my favourite part (weeping excluded). Not exactly every little thing is settled, however it's not an open ending either. It gives the reader just some hints so that he/she can imagine how things will develop, and I really appreciated it. It wasn't the usual happy/dramatic ending, but certainly moving.
> the characters. I was in love with already from the first book, but with Crooked kindom they just became my precious babies (except for Kaz who's my boyfriend). They aren't just fictional characters. They feel real.
- CONTRA
> the plot. To speak frankly, I wasn't as involved in this book as I was with Six of crows. Of course I recognize that Leigh Bardugo must be a Genius for planning something this complex, but at certain points I found myself a little lost and I had to spend some time trying to recollect my ideas and understand what was happening. But of course, since I wasn't reading in my mothertongue it is probably normal (and also because I have that bad habit of reading fast).
And again, being able to manage all those plot twists and POVs creating at the same time an incredible story is really something to admire.
Well, so maybe at the end this isn't even a real contro.
