Difficile da seguire, tanti personaggi che al punto in cui ho abbandonato la lettura (quasi metà libro) ancora non erano entrati in rapporto tra loro. Il piacere della lettura guastato dallo sforzo della lettura stessa.
It is not a simple book, as Philiph Dick’s books generally are not. But authors capable of fascination like him there are very few. The man in the high castle projects us into an alternative world, a world where the Berlin-Tokyo axis won World War II. We see an alternative America, colonized and not colonizing, reduced to selling fake American memorabilia to the rich Japanese- We see it from the point of view of different characters, due to economic and social conditions, whose events interwine in a way that they themselves do not understand. Against the background of the various events there are two books: the I Ching, the oracular book brought by the Japanese to America and adopted by the Americans themselves, to whom people rely to clarify their doubts, find their own way. The other is "The grasshopper will never rise again", written by "the man in the high castle", which tells of an alternative world in which America won the war. A mirror game in which Dick refers to our world? It is not so, because the world illustrated in "The grasshopper will no longer rise" deviates from ours on several points. And the final meeting, which could clarify the various ambiguities, instead complicates them; so the book closes, as often happens in Dick, without giving a precise answer, without providing the key of understanding that perhaps we will desire.

Non è un libro semplice, come generalmente non lo sono i libri di Philiph Dick. Ma autori capaci di affascinare come lui ce ne sono davvero pochi.
La Svastica sul Sole - o The Man in the High Castle per usare il titolo originale - ci proietta in un mondo alternativo, un mondo in cui l'asse Berlino-Tokyo ha vinto la seconda guerra mondiale. Vediamo un'America alternativa, colonizzata e non colonizzatrice, ridotta a vendere falsi "cimeli" americani ai ricchi giapponesi. Lo vediamo dal punto di vista di personaggi diversi, per condizioni economiche e sociali, le cui vicende si intrecciano in modo che loro stessi non comprendono.
Sullo sfondo delle varie vicende ci sono due libri: l'I Ching, il libro oracolare portato dai giapponesi in America e adottato dagli stessi americani, a cui le persone si affidano per chiarire i propri dubbi, trovare una loro strada. L'altro è "La cavalletta non si alzerà più", scritto da "l'uomo nell'alto castello", in cui si racconta di un mondo alternativo in cui l'America ha vinto la guerra. Un gioco di specchi in cui Dick rimanda al nostro mondo? Non è così, perché il mondo illustrato in "La cavalletta non si alzerà più" si discosta dal nostro su diversi punti. E l'incontro finale, che potrebbe chiarire le varie ambiguità, invece le complica; così il libro si chiude, come spesso accade in Dick, senza dare una risposta precisa, senza fornire la chiave di comprensione che forse desidereremo.
This is not my favorite Philip K Dick. Amazon's show actually did a good job adapting this story.
Weird book
The plot is paper thin, the massive number of references to I Ching very annoying, the writing without articles (I presumed to give the feeling of a 'bastardised' English?) unpleasant...
However, this weird book turns into a very engaging stream of consciousness set in rather extreme conditions for interesting characters and surrounded by a masterful world building
